As the calendar gets ready to hit February, athletes from around the Philadelphia Catholic League have been turning in elite performances left and right. New York was the place to be this past weekend as many teams were either at Ocean Breeze or the New Balance Armory. Highlights included LaSalle’s Ethan Maher running a PA #1, 2 Mile time of 9:26.06 (PA#2 3000m 8:48.82, en route). The rest of the men’s Ocean Breeze Invite belonged to the quarter milers of the league with Enoobing Eka (Monsignor Bonner, PA #9), Tyler Boone (Roman Catholic, PA #12) and Eric Ford (LaSalle College, PA #13) all knocking on the door of the 50 second barrier.
Kicking down that door over at the Armory was junior Kendall White (Bishop McDevitt, PA#5), whose 49.82 at the Bullis Speed Invitational had him join Salim Epps (St. Joe’s Prep) in the sub 50 club for this Indoor season.

The Armory was the site for the two top performances of the weekend. senior Kami Joi Hickson (Neumann Goretti) won the 800m against a loaded field with a PA #1 time of 2:13.22 (US #9) while freshman hurdler Taleea Buxton (8.57 – 60HH PA#1, US#8) ran second to US #1 senior and LSU commit, Leah Phillips. Finally, relay action concluded a big weekend as 3 teams, Neumann Goretti (PA#13), Bishop McDevitt (PA#17), Archbishop Prendergast (PA#19) improved their 4x200m times to stay in the top 20 for those highly coveted State qualifiers.
With the end of the season around the corner, the performance lists above are bound to see more and more change. This Wednesday Archbishop Ryan will host it’s annual sprint and field night while at Ursinus, the always competitive Delco Championships promise to live up to its usual high standard. Both meets should serve as great mid week appetizers as we get ready for both associations to be back at Lehigh for the first time since December.
